Born and raised in Florence, Italy, Leonardo discovered his love of hair while working at a local salon as a teenager.  He began his formal training in 1986, where he, as kismet would have it, met his future business partner Marco Santini. Like many Florentines before him, he set out for a new life elsewhere and soon thereafter landed at London’s prestigious salon Alan International. After continued travel and education, Leonardo moved to New York in 1994, where he began working at the famed salon Bumble&bumble. Between building a large clientele and educating fellow hairdressers, Leonardo cultivated a tremendously successful editorial career that can still be witnessed in countless ad campaigns, editorials, and runways across the globe. In 2008, Leonardo opened ION STUDIO NYC where he continues to challenge his craft and nurture hairdressing’s next generation. Follow Leo @leonardomanetti

Marco’s illustrious hairdressing career began in his hometown of Florence, Italy, when at the age of sixteen he decided to satisfy a creative urge. After his initial year of training, Marco, like his business partner Leonardo, pursued a formal education at London’s Alan International before bringing his refined craft back to his birthplace where he became an educator at the renowned Paolo Chirivi Salon. He then continued honing his own skill set in Spain under Luis Llongueras and in 1994, moved to New York where he built a loyal clientele at The Spot hair salon. Simultaneously, he pursued an editorial career by assisting industry legends Eugene Souleiman, Orlando Pita, Sam McKnight, Neil Moodie, and Ward. Marco’s work soon caught the eye of Bumble&bumble founder Michael Gordon, and by 1997, was one of the famed salon’s most successful stylists. His work has appeared in Vogue, Glamour, Marie Claire, V Magazine, and Dazed and Confused, as well as on a swath of runways. In 2008, he opened ION STUDIO NYC where he continues his journey both in and out of the salon.

Alessandro knew from an early age that hairdressing was his future. Born in northern Italy, close to the Dolomiti mountains and lake Garda, in a very small village, he graduated cosmetology school at seventeen. After a period in Spain, he moved to Milan where he gained experience in several different salons, before working for the prestigious salon Orea Malia for a decade. During his time in Italy’s fashion capital, he worked with many fashion designers and stylists. He also worked in collaboration with Universal Italia, MTV Italia, and Deejay TV.  Alessandro's clientele includes celebrities, musicians, and actors, and he was also the lead hairstylist for Italy’s most prestigious football team, the International F.C.  His penchant for men’s grooming paved his way to becoming a key educator with the Wahl Clipper Corporation with whom he still has a relationship. Alessandro is excited to continue expanding his talent in NYC, and with ION STUDIO . Follow Alessandro @alessandrocomai

Hailing from Montpellier, France, Yannick first flirted with becoming a hairdresser at age of twelve when, after his mother refused to bring him to the salon, he began experimenting with cuts and color on himself. His natural inclination for the craft soon had his friends clamoring for his styling skills, but it was nearly a decade later that his fate was sealed. After his first haircut from a professional at twenty-one ended disastrously, he realized his untrained eye had the potential for greatness. He pursued a formal education in his hometown and then continued honing his skill in both Europe and the United States. Along the way, he toured Europe as part of a rock band and continues playing music while also catering to an impressive salon clientele.

Colin’s hairdressing career began at the age of six when, to the delight of his dexterously challenged mother, he taught himself to french braid. After moving to New York in 2003, Colin attended the Aveda Institute and apprenticed at Antonio Prieto Salon for two years where he was first exposed to the world of editorial hairdressing.  Seeking more opportunity, he began a varied career at the famed New York salon Bumble&bumble. It was there that he honed his skills behind the chair, on set, backstage, and as an educator. Never being satisfied, Colin also pursued his Bachelors degree in Art and Architectural History at Columbia University which he completed cum laude in 2015.  During these years, he assisted famed hairdressers Guido Palau, Jimmy Paul, and Laurent Phillipon, worked backstage in New York and Paris on shows such as Marc Jacobs, Ric Owens, Alexander Wang, and Hood by Air, and styled celebrities from Rosario Dawson to Taylor Swift. He is happy to call ION STUDIO NYC his home and continues to focus his efforts on his dedicated salon clientele.

Born and raised in Naples, Italy, Mariano has been a hairdresser for over twenty-five years. He began apprenticing at the age of twelve and by seventeen had moved to an upscale salon in the heart of Naples.  His exposure to advanced techniques and stylists Aldo Coppola and Llongeras in Milan, ignited a thirst to learn more and the desire to explore more of the world. In 1992, Mariano moved to New York where his lifelong passion for music and art eventually led him to Suite 303 at the infamous Chelsea Hotel where he worked for sixteen years. After five years playing congas with Organic Grooves, Mariano co-founded Turntables on the Hudson, one of New York’s first late night outdoor parties where he moonlighted as a DJ for thirteen years. After retiring from his music career in 2010, Mariano dedicated himself to hairdressing completely and joined lifelong friends’ Leonardo and Marco’s team at ION STUDIO NYC.

SEIKO kubota

From the age of 18, Seiko took a very extreme liking to color. The naturalness, and full of movement looks she can create is what made her most noticed starting out in one of the top salons in Tokyo, Japan. She quickly became the busiest and most noticed colorists in the city, which led her to teaching seminars and private classes for color companies, Japanese fashion magazines, and advertisements.  This fueled her to make a move to NY and study under the "God of color" Michael Murphy.
Seiko now splits her time both in select cities on the east coast and in Japan.

'Seiko takes mousy-colored and muddy browns and paints in layers of golds and chestnuts and warm and cool umbers, for dark hair with drama and depth. Colleagues describe her as a kind of color savant: “She sees things no one else sees.”’ [Philly Mag]
